Overall:
On Thursday night we decided to head north to the Mille Café for dinner with some friends.

When walking into this place it gives a great vibe. The staff are extremely friendly and the smell of the food made my tummy rumble.

Word of advice when eating at Mille, go easy on the entrées as the mains are huge! We thought it would be a good idea to order some entrée to share so we ordered the three dips plate, cracked sea salt and lemon pepper calamari AND grilled cacciatore sausage. All extremely nice, but we may of over ordered just a little!

Our mains came within minutes after the entrée plates were cleared. I had an old time favourite of mine the Parmesan Crumbed Chicken Parmigiana with creamy mashed potato. It was awesome; the actual chicken took up my whole plate. My girlfriend ordered the Cacciuco which was a seafood stew. It was on the entrée menu but don’t let that fool you into meaning small, even she couldn’t get through it.

We brought our own wine but there was no need. The list had a great variety from Western Australia, the Barossa and New Zealand.

I hate to decline dessert especially when they looked so tempting but there was no room in my belly.

Just to wrap it up: If you are on a diet and into portion control you may want to consider else where but the Mille Café is my kinda place. The service was excellent; our waitress was very helpful and never missed a beat making sure our glasses were filled, bottles replaced and food delivered at the appropriate times. The dining atmosphere was relaxed and casual. I don’t have kids but it is very much a family friendly restaurant, according to the little tackers behind us.

The food was priced exceptionally well, definitely value for money without a doubt. I will be back, even though the owner is a Collingwood supporter!

Happy eating,
Quinten Lynch

Visited last Friday night.

Good hearty food. Mainly Italian style but with a few variations for those who keep coming back and want another type.

We shared some garlic bread for entree - nice large style herbed/grilled bread - while enjoying cocktails and wine.

Two minor issues - a martini with no olives (and the head waiter was surprised that someone requested it and wasn't willing to get one) and italian sausage that wasn't spicy and didn't come with crusty bread.

Everyone enjoyed their main meals - I had the meal of the day - a tasty honey roasted pork belly with vegetables. We also had great steaks, prawns and lamb on the bone.

Service:

The service was friendly and reasonably attentive where possible due to the busy night. They were a little eager to serve mains while the entree was still on the table and the young waters didn't know what to do when one of us said he wasn't ready to receive his main yet.

Ambience:

Loud and busy, hard to talk for the person on the other side of the table to hear. But the ambience was cheerful so it didn't annoy us too much.

Overall:
One of us felt a little rushed due to the eagerness to serve mains, but in the majority we enjoyed it. The portions are large enough to please most people, which it should be at that price. It could do with a review of the finishing touches (as above) in order to polish experience.

Generous servings, well-prepared and reasonably-priced menu. The food is a mix of tasty, modern Mediterranean and Asian styles, I always enjoy my meals here so I'd definitely recommend this value-for-money restaurant.

The restaurant also features a Breakfast Menu, which is handy to know for a leisurely brunch.

Service:

Great service & attention by all the staff, I just wish younger male waitstaff today wouldn't constantly refer to their male guests as "guys". It can be extremely annoying. I work in hospitality as well, and refer to my male guests as "Sir" or "Gentlemen" unless I know their names. I'm traditional.

Ambience:

Good ambience, but the wooden floors and the open kitchen are deafening on a crowded night! Couldn't wait to finish up a really good meal and escaping the din of the restaurant on the busy Saturday night I was there.

Overall:
I enjoy the food and service, location and price, so I'll definitely go back again.

in a word, terrific..i ordered the crumbed veal parmigiana which came on a bed of spaghetti napolitana..it was cooked just right, still pinkish in colour, very tasty and the spaghetti was almost as good as mine !! for $22.50 (less with the VIP Card) it was indeed great value..the extremely hungry wife chose the char grilled sirloin on a roasted garlic, rosemary and parmesan mash..she asked for it medium to well done and this was exactly what she got..i can vouch for the fact that this dish was delicious as i initially pretended that i didn't want to try it..as a result i got a much bigger portion when i finally "gave in"..even after devouring the steak the wife was still hungry so she ordered the apple pie.. again delicious, very chunky

Service:

no complaints whatsoever about any of the 3 wait staff who served us..pleasant, chatty (but not intrusive), informative, timely are some of the things that come to mind

Ambience:

we got a table next to a doorway and the footpath on Beaufort Street so we were able to have the best of both worlds..in addition the menus themselves were in absolute pristine condition which from my experience is not always the case and it was a pleasant change from some of the grotty ones of late

Overall:
Mille Cafe is probably deserving of some 5's but i'm reluctant to give any restaurant a 5 as that tends to say that it couldn't improve on anything which can hardly be true..however the food was as close to a 5 as you could be and really i couldn't fault the restaurant in any way whatsoever..in addition the staff actively supported the VIP Card and invited us to come back any time and use it again..overall the top quality food was great value for money, even more so with the 25% discount..

As per QL's review, we went easy on the starters. First we ordered bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar. The olive oil was beautiful and rich, however the bread was not crusty nor heavy enough for this purpose.

I ordered the angel hair pasta in a creamy garlic sauce with parmesan, rocket and fresh tiger prawns. Portion size was perfect, prawns cooked to perfection, not overly cheesy - just right. The rocket throughout the pasta kept every bite crunchy and fresh.

Service:

Very attentive, although they did not have the NZ wine we ordered, but were promptly advised. The bread and the mains came out at virtually the same time and there was not enough room for everything on the table, even though there was only two of us.

Ambience:

Friendly and warm, traditional decor.

Overall:
I must admit i was a bit hesitant in ordering a pasta dish coming from an Italian heritage however i was very pleasantly surprised and have since told 4 people how flavoursome it was. Would definitely go back

I have been to Mille Cafe on many occasions over the past 10 years, each time has been fantastic, whether it be lunch or dinner (have not been for brekky as yet!).

The last time was St Patrick's Day (also my birthday) for dinner. As usual, fantastic food and service! I had the stuffed chicken breast (on an unusual beetroot risotto) which was not only delicious, but way too big to fit in after the enormous entrees. Which left me no room for desserts, always hard to pass up at Mille! The only (very small and minor) pick, is we had to ask for water a couple of times, but given it was very busy and also St Paddy's day ... totally forgivable!

Excellent value for money!!

Had the entertainment voucher, so i thought i would give this place a try.

We were seated very promptly and a waiter came over and put a carafe of water on the table.

We ordered turkish bread to share for starters and it arrived within 5 minutes of ordering it.

For mains we both had the loin of pork, which the servings are quite big, if i had of realised that, i wouldnt have had entree.

The waiters are very attentive and clear the table promptly and even ask you if your enjoying your meal.

Unfortunately we didnt have room for any desert, but the cake range looked delicious.

For 2 of us with the voucher it came to $75.00 (which included a bottle of white wine) and felt very full afterwood.

This place is excellent value and would love to go again!

We ate at the Cafe tonight and were very impressed with the size of the servings and the service. The waitresses were friendly, helpful and unobtrusive. The food was presented very well and the choices were different to what you would expect at a Cafe. This is no ordinary cafe. This is a restaurant that serves coffee and very good food. If you are hungry and like a different taste sensation that will not break the bank this is the place to go. We ordered a surf and turf, a Pork loin and a black and white Linguine. All were cooked to perfection, served promptly and were generous in their servings. The draw back in such excellent food was there was no room left in the sweets stomach but the enticement in the desert display will certainly lure me back for a coffee and taste of the treasures yet discovered. Would recommend this to people who enjoy good food, like being fed in a no fuss and friendly atmosphere.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first-time dining experience at Mille Cafe last night. Our table of 5 (myself, hubbie, son, daughter and a dear friend) had made our booking for 7.30pm. It was no problem that we arrived a little earlier than our booked time. We were promptly seated at a table in the centre of the restaurant (which was a nice location and it gave us a chance to really check the place out). Our BYO wine was opened and wine glasses were already on the table awaiting the service of wine. Non wine drinkers ordered Coke and Beer and were served very quickly their drinks.

We ordered Garlic bread for starters and decided on just main meals (no entrees for tonight). I ordered the Australiasian Beef Stir Fry ($23.50), hubbie ordered, Pan-roasted Chicken Breast with Beetroot Risotto ($27.00), son decided on the Fetticine with Meatballs ($19.50), daughter chose a Chicken Caesar Salad ($19.50) and our friend liked the sound of the Smoked Salmon Salad ($21.50). All meals arrived pretty much together which was good. The first thing we all commented on was how BIG the portions of each meal were. The plates were enormous and so were the contents served on them. We started with such gusto, tucking hungrily into our meals, but it wasn't long before we each realised it wasn't going to be easy finishing every morsel. The meals themselves were delicious just really too big in size! Now normally you wouldn't find people complaining about the size of a meal as being too large - but truthfully it was the fear of food wastage that we were more taking into account here.

Hubbie and I managed to finish the majority of our meals (leaving only garnish and juices) but the others struggled big time!. My daughter and son decided rather than waste a good half of their meals each that they would ask for a 'doggie bag' and finish them a little later. Our waitress was more than happy to accomodate this request. Our friend decided against doing likewise as she had picked all the 'good stuff' out of her Salmon salad and just really only left the 'greens' (excess lettuce leaves). Dessert was overlooked by most of us. With two opting to share a slice of Rocky Road Cake ($6). Hubbie and I just had a coffee each.

Our visit to Mille Cafe lasted a little under 2 hours, there was not too long a wait in between ordering and being served the courses. The ambience was really enjoyable so we weren't really in a rush. Service staff were very obliging. They were happy to retrieve a number of bottles of cool water and were quick to clear dishes away as we were finished with our plates.

We used a RAC Member/Eating WA discount voucher (which had been offered via email to us). After this 25% discount our total bill came to $112, which we thought was very reasonable.

We will be sure to re-visit Mille Cafe again in the future. Next time we will be more aware of the large serving sizes when ordering. Perhaps we'll forego the Garlic Bread for starters or maybe see if we can order entree sized meals.

If you've not been to Mille Cafe - do consider trying them for your next meal out. A word of advice go there with an appetite!!!

5 stars for each criteria Mille Cafe....Well Done!

Mille Cafe is not only our local but our preferred Restaurant for both service, price and most of all quality of food. It's friendly atmosphere and great service complement the delectable menu and is both romantic for couples dinners and family friendly for functions.

I strongly recommend the filo tart, lamb shanks and any pasta dish. I cannot think of anything i've not enjoyed. Their menu offers choice for all palates and their dessert menu is great if you can fit it in.

Try this place, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Last Friday night my partner and I decided to book a table at Mille, let me say i will be doing it again soon.

The food was terrific, I had the roasted pork and my partner had the Ricotta filled chicken. My meal was delightful, as I’m not a fan of beetroot i asked if it could be made without the chutney, no problem at all was the response. My partners chicken was so well cooked i ended up eating the last part, so moist and the orange zest gave it a magnificent twist.

Service was great, very friendly staff, didn't have to wait for the food very long and just an overall good feeling in the restaurant.

i will be definitely recommending this restaurant!!

As we always seem to do, we decided to dine out on the spur of the moment. We called up and they managed to fit in our table of five.

They were quite busy but they went out of their way to make sure we weren't rushed. The service was attentive and despite the full restaurant, our food and drinks weren't delayed.

We started with bread and dips to share and a bottle of Brookland Valley SSB. I was very impressed that all the wines seemed so affordable - I don't think there was a white wine over $25.

For mains, I chose the roasted loin of pork. It had some beautiful flavours that went well together and the stuffing was delicious.

The serving sizes were fairly decent, eliminating the need for dessert. Instead, we settled for coffee and the red wine we'd brought.

As far as cafe dining goes, this is one of the best places I've been to. Everything is priced accordingly, the food's fantastic and the service is friendly.

After reading the previous reviews there is little I can add. This cosy restaurant offering well cooked and beautifully presented food with very generous servings at reasonable prices. Service is very good being friendly, attentive and prompt.

It is a very popular restaurant as evidenced by the number of diners and table turnover on the night we dined here.

We went to dinner at Mille Cafe with a few friends last Thursday night, upon entering the restaurant you notice it has a warm casual atmosphere, it's a fairly spacious set up and the restaurant was fairly busy for a week night and we were warmly greeted and seated immediately upon arrival.

I must say the menu offers an abundance of mouth watering meal choices and all reasonably priced, after much deliberating I decided on going for the traditional Italian dish of bruschetta for entree.... it was huge and tasty, I ended up having to recruit help to eat it all (mind you no arm twisting was necessary!).

I think it's a good idea to get a few entrées for the table for everyone to share, which is what we basically ended up doing.

For main I went for the chicken breast, which had a citrus twist to it and was served on baby potatoes with a red capsicum jam and was stuffed with ricotta.

It was a tasty, refreshing meal but certainly threw my healthy eating habits for the week out the window!

Everyone at the table seemed to be more than happy with their choices.

Overall we all had a delightful experience, and if you want a genuine, casual dining experience this is definitely a place to try. The servings are generous, prices reasonable and the staff are charming and capable. Good place to go with a group of friends.

Overall, an enjoyable night out with pleasant atmosphere and friendly conversation.

I was invited to a friends Birthday lunch at Mille Cafe one fine weekend (at least 4 yrs ago) and I have to say, I had the best experience in a long time at a restaurant.

The food, the staff were all just incredible to say the least... the black and white linguine that the birthday girl raved about since her Christmas lunch 6mths prior, I just had to give it a go... well to no surprise really, it was amazing.

So this brings me to quite happily say, I have had 2 Birthdays there now and have been at least 3 times for lunches. What impressed me the most was after my 1st Birthday celebration there, which I may add, the staff helped set the room up with pictures, balloons and party things, when the guests arrived, each one received a complimentary glass of champagne, which was lovely. I returned with some friends at least 7mths later to have two of the staff remember me from that long ago!! quite impressive as you can just imagine how many people they see on a daily basis, let alone 7mths. So that easily won my vote to return there at any cost...

I would like to add that Mille Cafe is by far our favourite place to go.

Keep up the good work guys and the great food...

Cheers

I've eaten at Mille on two occasions now. Once on a busy Saturday evening and once on a weekday lunchtime. On both occasions the service was great, food came quickly, was hot, we were given chilled water without requesting it and the children were served their food as we were our starters - what a great idea! The food on both occasions was fantastic. I said to my husband that it was unusual to go into a restaurant and say that the food was better than you expected. The twice roasted belly pork I had today was to die for. This place would suit a casual family meal out or a celebratory dinner. We will definitely be returning! Well done Mille!

We went on a busy sat night with 2 kids, but we were told when we made the reservation that it would be a busy night with a hen's night and a birthday dinner happening.

Nonetheless, we went at 6.30pm before the rush so I was expecting a little more service.
But the food was fantastic, my husband had the steak on what I must say was a fabulous mash and I had the vegie pasta which was also very good. Although our big mistake was trying to finish the 3 dip platter entree which made us very full at the end. In all it was a nice dinner out and the kids didn't faze the staff, if they were paying attention that is.

We headed off to the Mille on Sunday lunch time for a family birthday celebration. I knew that this restaurant could be trusted to give us the service and good food so that nothing would be left to chance!! The ambiance is different by day naturally but the service was first class and Paul the owner took the trouble I noticed to make a courtesy call to each table to check that all was well. We started our lunch by two of us sharing a bruschetta and the other two sharing turkish bread and dips. If you have never been to this restaurant before then take my word for it and share an entree, they are huge and you really do want to leave room for the mains. Our mains consisted of a pasta with chicken, leek and bacon. Very filling. My husband had the chicken parmigiana and my only gripe with the Mille is that this has now changed from the "to die for" olive sauce to a herb dressing. Bring back the olive choice please, please. My son and daughter in law chose the chicken ceasar salad which they struggled through. Looked very lovely and I did pinch a spoonful. The ceasar dressing was a little over powering for my taste. We settled for some coffee before heading home to have a nana nap. This is still one of my favourites and is the tried and trusted restaurant.

I am not sure where to begin so to put it simply i will tell you the good things followed by the not so good things.

The food was big and value for money and it tasted good enough to go back, but unfortunately on arrival, we were just given menus and told to sit where we like instead of being brought to a table and we were not offered the two simple things of carafes of water or cracked black pepper with our meal.

We went for breakfast and at 10.00am it was freezing inside with no appearance of any heating and the two different wait staff came to our table within one minute of each other to ask if we wanted a coffee to begin with, maybe they were bored with only two tables in there or they just don't have any communication.

Also when we had finished our meal my friend wanted another coffee but after no one came to offer one we just left.

Overall the staff were friendly and the food was fast, so i probably would go again, i just pick up all the little details from having worked in hospitality which do contribute to your overall opinion.

When i went there for lunch a couple of months ago i could not find a fault, maybe different staff make all the difference!

Having visited for the first time in 6 months I must say we were blown away by the new menu. We started with the Morrocan Lamb Ragout which had a full and subtly sweet taste and Cacuccio, which the menu describes as "traditional Italian fisherman's stew", simple yet effective and hearty considering our recently cold evenings.

For mains I chose the Osso Bucco braised with celery, bay, lemon and thyme........interesting and refreshing to see this dish without the normally heavy tomato base, it was very tasty and the veal fell apart.. The component ingredients also made for a very clean and delicate taste, the accompanying risotto Milanese just melted in my mouth. My wife had the chicken, lemon thyme, goats cheese and smoked garlic risotto to which she quite simply said it was the best risotto she'd had in months!

The place was 3/4 full which for a Sunday night we think is a good sign, the manager had a great tableside manner and it made for a pleasant Sunday night's dining.

We shall return soon!

About 2 years ago, we used to love this cafe. Since then, ownership has changed and we feel that it has deteriorated.

A few months back we weren’t impressed by the food, and they messed up some of the orders causing a 1/4 of the table to wait an extra 20 minutes after everyone else had been served before they got their meals. We put this down to a bad night.

Last night, however, the experience left little to be desired once again. Our waitress was very friendly but was new, and kept making mistakes and running back from the kitchen to correct the specials. They were clearly understaffed and the poor girl was run off her feet, it took a lot of effort to get our water refilled. We enjoyed the bruschetta immensely for entree. The osso bucco and fish of the day were both very average, if not below, and definitely not worth the $20-$30 we paid for them.

They brought out our Caesar salad with the wrong toppings, causing it to be sent back. They then overcharged us when we were paying (an honest mistake, but caused by chaotic service and management)

We will not be visiting Mille Cafe ever again, which is a pity.

I have to say that Mille Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants - the food is just gorgeous (usually), always tastes fresh, is well presented and there is a lot of choice. I have been there for lunch and dinner on many occasions and really enjoy the atmosphere - its casual, relaxing and homely - and the waitstaff are always good.

However..and this is more a review to let the owners have some feedback...not to discourage anyone from trying it out, it still remains a favorite.

I took a friend for dinner on Wednesday night and have to say it was the most (and only) disappointing meal I have eaten there (or anywhere recently). Don't know if theres a different chef on Wed nights but after trying two different entrees (Turkish bread and dips, Fennel and Sweet Potato Soup) and two mains (Porthouse with Port Wine Jus, mash and a Pork dish) we left feeling full (the portion sizes at Cafe Mille are generous) but definately not satisfied. The soup was very overflavoured with fennel yet quite tasteless otherwise, the dips were a strange assortment that didnt really compliment each other well (bread was good), the steak was overcooked (asked for medium, got well done) and quite mediocre tasting, the potatoes were flavourless and a little hard and the pork was "okay".

Service was fine though and our curly haired waitress was very nice :o)

As Molly Meldrum would say "Do yourself a favour".

The ratings I've given take into account that we are talking cafe-style dining here. However, attentive service and enough variety in the menu to satisfy most people (and I've had groups of up to 15 here over several occasions in the last 2 years) means they are getting it right.

If you're thinking Mount Lawley, well, unless you live there, think twice. There are a couple of good options just up the road in Inglewood, and this is one of them. Without naming names, it beats a couple of the (Italian sounding) names in Mt Lawley hands down - while still being on the same side of Beaufort St !!

By the way, Mille is Italian for 1,000. That's the street number. Suggest parking around the corner, and you may need to walk 200m.
